We planned on a road trip from Toronto to Calgary, but taking the
"long way". Atlanta is the only definitely stop so far.

Anyways, we'd like to get to Atlanta from Toronto. It appears that
I75 south from Detroit will be the most straightforward way of getting
there. I know the roads well in Ontario (so going through
Buffalo/Detroit are both easy for us...). However, considering the
weather this time of year, I wonder if another route might be better.

We assume 15 hours will get us there. We plan to get up early and
drive straight to the hotel in Atlanta.

So when you say "long way" you must mean as out of the way as possible!

That would probably make little difference as any alternative routes wouldn't be
far enough away to offer different climates. Once you get to Tennessee it's most
likely going to be noticeably warmer.

You gotta watch though, if you get stuck on the freeway in Kentucky, there are
packs of wild meth-crazed hillbillies on snowmobiles & snowshoes just waiting to
assault & rob tourists. They especially hate Canadians, thinking them all to be
French. Ever see "Deliverance"?

Be careful, or fly.
