Hey,Im planning togo toamerica with one of my friends this summer for
a twomoth road tripfromnew yor toSan Fran. or vise versa but are at a
loss as to where to start. We are both 19 and would really like to
either hire a car or buy an old banger, but have heard a few horror
stories about the insurancecosts... Another option is rental, but
again we dont really know the issues... Failing all of that the we
might go for an organised tour, but we would really like to dp it
outselves, so i guess id just like any one with any advice just to
drop us a note? Have you done this kind of thisn before? what would
be easier, cheaper or more interesting and generally chilled out??

Thanks in advance for all your help,

Regards,

Carlo

Your best bet is to probably look into taking the Amtrak (train) across the
country and make stops wherever you want with select passes. At 19, it
will be difficult to find a place that will rent to you as most places
require a minimum age of 21. A cheaper alternative would be the Greyhound
bus, but much slower.
