places and thing to do along the way.

Pacific Coast Highway would be a great road to cruise but takes longer
than US 101.
Pismo Beach is a great place to make an overnight stop or to spend a
couple of days. It is about half-way between SF and LA.
South of Pismo Beach between Santa Maria and Solvang and running east of
US 101 is Foxen Canyon Road that has several wineries to visit along the
way if you like that kinda thing.
The historic Missions of San Juan Bautista, Soledad, Jolon, San Miguel,
Santa Barbara and a few others are strung along the way, mostly near
Highway 101.
Hearst Castle, on the coast west of Paso Robles is a treat to tour.
There are a few touristy towns to peek at like Morro Bay on Highway 1
and Solvang (east of 101 and Buellton), a small Danish town with places
to spend your dollars.
Take Highway 154, a scenic shortcut that will get you off the freeway
from Buellton, through San Marcos Pass and then drops you back out to
Santa Barbara and is about the same miles and time as US 101.
Santa Barbara is a nice overnight stay with hotels near the beach and
good seafood restaurants out on the pier.
At Disneyland, don't overlook the newer "California Adventure" part of
the park and visit the "Downtown Disney" area between the two parks for
many great (although "trendy" and touristy) restaurants. The Arriba
Arriba had pretty good Cuban food and the Rainforest is good for kids,
although there is one in SF at Fisherman's Wharf you may have seen.
I found that the best food in Disneyland is at the Blue Bayou which is
located inside the Pirates Of The Caribbean attraction - their Cajun
food rivals that I have had in Louisiana. Kinda expensive if you are
feeding a bunch of kids, though.
If you want specifics on cafes and motels then drop me a mail and I'll
send you a Microsoft Word document with all the good stuff.
Have fun.
