Hi folks:

I'm moving to Seattle and at the wrong time. I'm looking, please, for
some quick advice on the route I should take to get out there. As it
stands I'll be in a Honda Accord, circa 1999, well-maintained.

Here are the options that I'm seeing right now.

Safety is of the primary concern here. I realize mountains are in my
future; I just want the easiest ones to pass through, and I realize
winter conditions could be a big factor too.

I have from Dec 27 to Jan 2 to get there.

I-80--->I-25N-->I-90-->Seattle
I-94---I-90-->Seattle
I-90-->Seattle

I'm pretty scared about all this--I've never even seen a rocky
mountain before, being a flatlander. Any advice?

I would take I-90 all the way. There is some wonderful scenery along the
way. Don't forget to stop along the way and see some scenery. Take your
camera along and make some memories. When you are done don't forget to
let us know how it went and what you saw along the way.

By the way the rockies are beautiful but nothing to be afraid of if you
stick to the Interstate.

Buy a set of chains for your car and learn how to use them. They are
required in Washington state if the mountain passes are snow packed. I
don't know about the in-between states.

I-80 to near SLC, I-84 to Portland, I-5 to Seattle would be an alternate
route with maybe less snow and a beautiful drive along the Columbia river.
I-90 has it's beautiful areas also. Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota can
be murder if the weather conditions are not good.

You can see a lot of the state of Washington road conditions from these
webcams. Check out:

It is the main pass on I-90 in Washington.

Good Luck

Thanks for all your help, everyone! We've decided to take I-90 all the
way, weather be damned. We'll make it. It isn't as though I haven't
driven in snow before (being in Ohio, of course). The chains are
purchased, and we're ready and rarein to go.

Thanks again,

C.
